Position Summary:
The Head Executive Chef is responsible for leading all culinary operations at Trinity Development Center, including daily management of the on-site café and restaurant, planning and execution of catered events, and development of inclusive food service programming. This role blends traditional executive chef duties with a mission-centered focus, including mentoring and working alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a supportive and skill-building environment.
The Head Chef must be both creative and strategic—capable of delivering high-quality, nutritious meals while building a positive culture rooted in teamwork, training, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
Café & Restaurant Oversight:
- Manage day-to-day kitchen operations including prep, service, sanitation, and food safety.
- Create and update café and restaurant menus based on seasonality, nutrition, and customer feedback.
- Ensure compliance with all health department standards and food handling regulations.
- Monitor kitchen inventory and order supplies, staying within budget.
- Train and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers, including individuals with disabilities.
- Maintain cleanliness, efficiency, and professionalism across all back- and front-of-house operations.
Catering & Special Events:
- Design, coordinate, and execute catering for in-house and off-site events (e.g., luncheons, fundraisers, galas, and community celebrations).
- Work with clients, event planners, and internal teams to develop menus that meet dietary needs and event goals.
- Lead food preparation and service for large groups while ensuring quality, presentation, and timeliness.
- Collaborate with TDC staff to support community-building events such as dances, movie nights, family dinners, and partner-sponsored gatherings.
Inclusive Training & Vocational Support:
- Provide culinary instruction, job coaching, and skill development opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
- Model and teach foundational kitchen skills (e.g., knife safety, food prep, dishwashing, cleanliness, time management).
- Support individuals in practicing hospitality and customer service during café shifts and catered events.
- Partner with job coaches and program staff to ensure alignment with individual goals and accommodations.
Team Leadership & Administration:
- Recruit, onboard, and manage kitchen personnel, volunteers, and vocational trainees.
- Prepare and manage kitchen budget, track expenditures, and submit reports as needed.
- Work closely with Operations and Program teams to ensure consistent service and support across departments.
- Develop systems and SOPs to maintain efficiency, safety, and quality control.
Additional Expectations:
- Represent the mission and values of TDC with professionalism, compassion, and enthusiasm.
- Be available on evenings/weekends for events as scheduled.
- Build positive relationships with staff, families, community partners, and guests.
- Maintain flexibility and problem-solving under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an executive chef or lead culinary professional
- Proven experience in catering and large-scale meal preparation
- Experience working with or supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (preferred or willingness to be trained)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and budgeting ability
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training (preferred)
- Current Food Handler’s or ServSafe Certification (required or must obtain)
